OUR SERVICES

WHAT WE DO

Contact Ministries is a Christian organization. We value living out the two great commandments to love God and love our neighbor. (Matt. 22:37-39) Our goal is to see transformation in the lives of the people we serve. Our Mission is to daily serve the greater Springfield community by providing Emergency and Transitional Shelter with life skills training, as well as food, clothing, financial assistance and referrals through Christ’s love and compassion. Our vision is to meet the basic needs of all while impacting lives for Christ.

Shelters

The homeless population in the Springfield community is growing and becoming an incredible concern for many.

Contact Ministries’ Emergency (crisis) shelter offers women and women with children of all ages (up to age 17), a safe and stable environment where their basic needs can be met. The shelter is open from 5:00pm-8:00am 365 days a year and gives each resident the dignity they deserve to begin working towards building a better life. The shelter has been home to women age 18-90. Case management and on site mental health counseling is available so an individual plan can be created.

The 6 month long-term Transitional shelter offers women with children, a safe and secure environment, where their lives will begin to transform through required life skill classes (i.e. parenting, budgeting, nutrition, employment, etc.) weekly case management with goal setting, on site mental health counseling and other supportive services to provide the needed resources to get on a pathway to a successful future for themselves and their children.

Walk-In Services

Contact Ministries offers a variety of services. Our case managers are on site Monday-Thursday and take appointments between 9:00am-4:00pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to help with prescription medication assistance for seniors over 55 years of age and other possible help to navigate through resources available in Springfield, IL. On Wednesdays the main lobby is open from 9:00am-1:00pm for basement boutique shopping and general services inquiries.

Red carts full of clothing, along with other overflow items, are placed outside daily, Monday-Thursday, for the community to be able to “shop” at for free. Uniforms, school supplies, blankets, coats/gloves/hats, hygiene kits and resource guides are also available upon request. Thanksgiving and Christmas giveaways are done that reach over 500 families per year.

Basement boutique

Our faith-based, nonprofit organization accepts donated items which are then distributed through our “Basement Boutique” on Wednesdays for any woman wishing to “shop”. Items from the boutique, clothing and household, are also offered in red carts Monday-Thursday and placed outside our front door for the community to “shop” from for free.

The Basement Boutique provides our shelter residents with job training skills and experience that will be used far beyond their stay with us at Contact Ministries. The boutique is arranged as any little boutique where the inventory needs sorted, the shelves need stocked and the shoppers need to go through the check out counter. Our residents get to experience every step of this process by working side by side with our staff and volunteers to sharpen their skills, build self confidence and pride in their work along the way.
